The Rug

I’ve been spending much of this week with the daunting task of redecorating my house. Every year, it will be a ritual to somewhat destroy and rebuild my very own sanctuary. This year, I am looking to repaint my walls, put up new installations and also, a change of beds. Last weekend, I loaded up my shopping trolley and spent a significant amount of money to reach those goals. So I worked on it and after a few days, I was ready to show my newly minted room to a close group of friends and family over dinner. Well most reviews i recieved were kind and glowing but a comment from a family member stood out , after he spent a good time inspecting the new look, he said “That’s a nice rug”.

I shrugged it off at first, choosing to bask in the glory I've earned from my other friends and family members , but after some thought, I did realize something. As small as the act of putting a new rug on the floor was as compared to a new paint job, a new installation and even a new bed, the rug was quite a significant change simply because, I never had a rug on my bedroom floor before. It got me thinking, what are the little things can you do to your portfolio, which can make a lasting and significant change?

The Little Changes You Can Make.

To help my cause, I spent a few hours last week talking to a group of people that would fit the demographic of a potential client for our portfolio members. I asked them a series of questions pertaining to changes that they would like to see in a TAXI portfolio. There were 2 main points that stood out with regards to changes or additions they would like to see in a TAXI portfolio.

Adding a video to your TAXI portfolio was a popular choice. With the advance of technology in general, making a simple video and putting it up online is very simple. Most of them actually would like to see works in the form of a video montage, not only limited to static images, but actual videos of the artist at work, and also insights into their inspirations and work ethic

They want to get to know their prospective vendors much better as it helps them make a more informed decision on who they should work with.

They would also like to see more vibrant and well-put together portfolios. The use of colours in the themes and also putting extra effort into arranging the artwork in specific galleries usually helps them make a better decision. We currently provide up to 8 different coloured themes and also an option to use custom backgrounds. A note was that they would prefer portfolios of 4 galleries with a maximum of 10 works per gallery. The trick is to usethe first gallery for your best works.

All in all, it was a healthy discussion from TAXI’s standpoint as they gave great feedback to further help them in their decision process and most importantly, to help you guys show off your best works in the best possible way.

Whats Cookin’

This coming week, there will be a small update coming up. We will be adding RSS feeds to most areas of TAXI, including your portfolios. This will allow you to subscribe to the editorial sections that you like and also allow you to embed a feed of your portfolio to your personal blog or website. I will touch more on that topic in the coming week. In the meantime, you can find out more about RSS here

Also, keep the emails coming in as your feedback has been invaluable to us and it has helped a whole lot in making TAXI better for everyone. The Technologist will no longer be sent as an email newsletter and will be up on TAXI weekly instead. Do keep the feedback coming in and you can drop me a line here.

Till next week then, have a great week ahead.
