ASID presents Interiors '04, an international conference on design

Keynote addresses given by three visionaries of the design world and two national design awards programs will highlight INTERIORS '04: The ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) Conference on Design, to take place March 4 - 7, 2004, in Savannah, Ga.

Friday, March 5
"Contemporary Trends in the Built Environment," Robert Ivy, FAIA, editor in chief, Architectural Record, 9 - 10 a.m., Grand Ballroom, Westin Savannah Harbor Resort, One Resort Drive, Savannah, Ga., (912) 201-2000. Ivy will share his unique insights on contemporary trends in the built environment, specifically how the global economy, digital technology and materials innovation are influencing new interior solutions and becoming sources of inspiration for the design process.

"Mid-Course Correction," Ray C. Anderson, founder and chairman, Interface, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m., Chatham Ballroom, Savannah International Trade & Convention Center, One International Drive, Savannah, Ga., (888) 644-6822. Sustainability visionary Anderson will provide insight on the plan Interface has adopted in moving toward environmental sustainability and beyond to becoming a restorative corporation.

ASID/Southern Accents Residential Awards, Saturday, March 6, 8:30 - 9:30 a.m., Chatham Ballroom, Savannah International Trade & Convention Center. Event celebrates the best in U.S. interior design and is sponsored by Southern Accents magazine. View the winning designs and meet the first-place winners in the bathroom, living room and kitchen categories and the honorees in the first student competition. Karen Carroll, Southern Accents editor, and Bill Carey, Southern Accents publisher will emcee.
"Why Don't People Understand What I Do? An Outsider Looks for Answers to How Interior Design Is Perceived, Practiced and Preached," Susan Szenasy, editor in chief, Metropolis, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m., Chatham Ballroom, Savannah International Trade & Convention Center. Szenasy will offer an "outsider's" view of interior design, from its public image to professional practice to interior design education, and provide suggestions and anecdotes about what needs to change for design to achieve the respect it deserves.

ASID...a Celebration, 7 - 8 p.m., Grand Ballroom, Westin Savannah Harbor Resort. Visionary designers, educators, ASID volunteers and Industry Partners will be honored for their contributions to the interior design profession and the Society. Among the honorees this year are the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, Habitat for Humanity, and Interface Flooring.
