Michael Laude and the Bose Corporate Design Center were selected as the design team of the year 2008. The award, regarded as the highest distinction in the design world, thereby went to the design department of a US-American company this year. Issued annually since 1988, the award honours design teams that set standards through continuous design innovation. Among the former recipients are the teams from BMW, LG Electronics, adidas, Pininfarina, Nokia, Apple, Siemens, and frogdesign.
The Bose design team will be honoured at the festive awards ceremony for red dot award: product design 2008, to take place on 23 June 2008 in the Aalto Theater in Essen, Germany.
For over 40 years, the US-American company, under the direction of company founder Dr. Amar Gopal Bose, has been manufacturing hi-fi products that enhance our experiential realm of sound––reproduced as lifelike and naturally as possible. Bose pursues a design style in which hi-fi systems integrate easily and inconspicuously into our daily environments.
“The development and design processes at Bose result in products that are based on the latest technology, however, for which technology is not regarded as an end in itself”, explains Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award and senator of Icsid (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design).
“The loudspeakers, earphones, or hi-fi systems from Bose are are striking, precisely because they do not struggle to be striking. They are mature products that get by without any need for special effects. They possess an elegant classicism that marries the underlying technology with perfect form to make an end product that is extremely functional and easy to use. Products, in other words, that are like English butlers, virtually invisible in the background but which free the user to concentrate on his real pursuits.”
