PRESS RELEASE

January 2009

In its aim to take second place in leadership of the flat panel TV industry this year, LG Electronics unveils six world-firsts at the recent 2009 Consumer Electronics Show (2009 CES).

Unveiled, the new LG flat screen sets (LH90 Series: LH90 and LHX) boast the slimmest make and advanced LED and dimming technology. As the world’s slimmest, the LHX line of screens measure just 24.8mm thick, using silicone lenses to amplify the light, while simultaneously increasing the backlight’s quality.

In contrast to the industry average of 300 to 400 LEDs per set, LG uses between 1,000 and 1,500 LEDs for backlights as with screen size. This method allows the screen to be divided into 240 different sections that can be individually adjusted to create clearer and more natural images, even when light and deep shades appear on screen together.

“There is nothing else like this on the market,” said Havis Kwon, Head of LCD TV Business of the LG Home Entertainment Company. “The LH90 series HDTVs are conceived as one-of-a-kind sets, beyond ordinary TV technology. Discerning consumers will instantly recognize the difference in watching our LH90 and LHX sets; no other television will look the same after experiencing them.”

What makes the LHX line even better is the doing away of cable clutter that is usually a problem for multiple connections from other equipment. This was made possible with LG’s world-first wireless 1080p Full HD TV technology.

In the premium LHX and LH85 models, this wireless technology delivers completely uncompressed, 1080p “Full HD” picture quality. There is just one power cord that plugs directly into the set. Connecting wires from other devices are plugged into a separate unit that can be placed up to 30 ft away from the screen without compromise to picture quality and wireless transmission.

“Consumers don’t need to sacrifice picture quality for more convenience,” said Mr. Kwon. “The LHX and LH85 play the latest Blu-ray discs and video games at the highest quality with LG’s outstanding wireless 1080p Full HD TV technology, because we want our consumers to be absolutely satisfied with every aspect of the TV viewing experience.”

More to this stylish design and convenience, LG’s world-first 240Hz LED-scanning technology coined TruMotion 240Hz creates crystal clear images with natural movement. It eliminates motion blur using backlight control technology, instead of covering it by inserting interpolation data as other sets do.

And when combined with LG’s advanced Super IPS panels, the 240Hz technology helps LG achieve the world’s fastest response time on LCD TV at a mere 2 millisecond, which is how watching content on the LG LH90 series (LH90 and LHX) and LH55 makes an immersive television experience. Even better, the entire high-quality experience comes with lower power consumption and reduced heat and electromagnetic interference (EMI).

Not only is LG delivering superb picture quality to its consumers, but its efforts also extend to providing them with the most diverse and open TV viewing experience. This is now made by possible via its world’s first collaboration with major web portal Yahoo!, the first partnership of its kind in the world. LG’s innovative broadband technologies offer the ultimate in TV entertainment. The included Yahoo! Widget service offers basic information, such as weather, finance, news and Flickr photos. LG also provides direct YouTube access and Netflix Instant Streaming service. With these features, high-speed internet users will be only a 30-second download away from a selection of more than 12,000 movies.

Apart from all the features, the ultimate beauty in LG’s introductions is the energy savings that is also the world’s lowest in power consumption in electronic products: The LG LH30, equipped with an energy saving LCD screen, uses up to 80 percent less power than other LCD TVs. Its stand-by energy consumption is just about zero, meaning less nighttime or standby power leakage.

In addition, LG’s incorporated eco-friendly features like the Intelligent Sensor II Technology in particular reduces power consumption by a maximum of 73 percent compared to older models of the same size, and helps produce a pictures that minimize eye strain and fatigue during extended viewing.

Although LG TVs consume less energy, their fine picture quality and pleasant viewing experience are by no means compromised. The Intelligent Sensor II dims the backlight whenever possible to accommodate the surrounding environment, ultimately providing audiences with the finest picture quality at a lower cost.
