Honda FCX Clarity Named 2009 World Green Car

Recognizing Honda's commitment to environmental leadership in the area of alternative fuels and hydrogen-powered fuel cell technology, the Honda FCX Clarity was declared the 2009 World Green Car, American Honda Motor announced.

At a press conference hosted by the New York International Auto Show and Mobil 1 at the Jacob Javits Center in, New York, the Honda FCX Clarity was named the 2009 World Green Car. The FCX Clarity was chosen from an initial entry list of 22 contenders nominated by 59 World Car jurors from 25 countries worldwide.

"The FCX Clarity is a symbol of the progress we have made with fuel cell vehicles and our commitment to developing vehicles that promote renewable energy supplies and zero-emissions transportation," said Steve Center, VP, National Marketing Operations for American Honda.

The FCX Clarity, a sleekly styled hydrogen fuel cell-powered sedan currently available on a limited lease-basis, is propelled by an electric motor that runs on electricity generated by an on-board fuel cell stack. The vehicle's only emission is water, and its fuel efficiency is up to three times that of a modern gasoline-powered automobile and two times that of a gasoline-powered hybrid vehicle.

The World Green Car awards were inaugurated in 2003, and officially launched in January 2004, to reflect the reality of the global marketplace, as well as to recognize and reward automotive excellence on an international scale.

The awards are administered by a non-profit association, under the guidance of a Steering Committee of pre-eminent automotive journalists from Asia, Europe, and North America. There is no affiliation with, nor are the awards in any way influenced by any publication, auto show, automaker, or other commercial enterprise.

    Motorola has been honored with three of the industry’s most prestigious industrial design awards for the MC17 mobile computer.

    Continuing to demonstrate Motorola’s long history of innovation and the renowned expertise of its multiple design and engineering teams, Motorola’s MC17 has been recognized with awards from several leading design organizations. These prestigious awards include, the International Design Excellence award, iF Product Design award and Good Design award.

    “These accolades are a true testament to Motorola’s extensive heritage of product innovation–recognizing our ongoing efforts to bring competitive and differentiated products to market while addressing the demanding needs of our enterprise mobility customers.”

    The MC17 mobile computer empowers shoppers to scan items, check prices, locate complementary items, access personalized promotions, and create gift and wish lists to deliver a new level of customer service excellence.

    Additionally, the multi-purpose device increases associate productivity by providing the tools needed to answer customer questions on the spot, streamline and error-proof inventory management and line bust to reduce wait times at check-out stands.

    “Dirk van den Broek selected Motorola's MC17 mobile computer for its ergonomic design and ability to enhance the customer ‘inspirience’ (inspiration and experience),” said Mariette Steevens, Innovation Manager, Dirk van den Broek.

    "Motorola's MC17 inspires the customer to buy products that they were not familiar with by indulging them with relevant product information. With a unique form factor and user-friendly interface, the MC17 has been well-received by our customers."

    The MC17 mobile computer is Motorola’s third-generation retail solution that places advanced data capture and communication technology in an inviting, friendly form that is easy to use for everyday consumers. It features a sleek, ergonomic form factor that can withstand everyday drops and tumbles in retail environments. Weighing 20 per cent less than the previous generation device, the MC17 is optimized to reduce fatigue and provide comfortable one-handed operation for ease of use.
