A 15-second ad by KFC Australia has received flak for perpetrating “sexist” messages by featuring some boys ogling at a woman’s cleavage.
The commercial for the fast food chain’s Zinger Popcorn box depicts a woman in a short playsuit checking her behind and adjusting her shirt as she looks at the reflection of a car’s window.
The window then winds down, revealing a couple of young boys gawking at her chest. The lady then smiles at them and says, “Did someone say KFC?”
The spot has been on national television for the past three weeks, as well as amassed over 60,000 views on YouTube.
Collective Shout, a group campaigning against women objectification, called the ad a “regression [towards] tired and archaic stereotypes where young women are sexually objectified for male pleasure.”
“We apologize if anyone was offended by our latest commercial. Our intention was not to stereotype women and young boys in a negative light,” a spokesperson for KFC Australia clarified.
