The Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil lit up on Easter Sunday to mirror the appearance of a doctor in honor of healthcare workers battling the coronavirus pandemic.
Flags of several countries currently affected by the crisis were projected on the statue towering over the city of Rio de Janeiro. The city’s archbishop, Dom Orani Tempesta, also held a mass at the base of the statue during the light show to thank frontline professionals.
The light show included photos of medical professionals wearing scrubs and face masks alongside a message of thanks in various languages. The slogan “Fique Em Casa,” which means “Stay at Home,” was projected on Christ the Redeemer’s arm.
This is the second time the monument has been illuminated due to the virus. Back in March, the city held a similar event where flags of the affected countries were displayed onto the statue.
On Easter Sunday, a doctor's uniform was projected onto the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, with "thank you" in multiple languages underneath.
