After donating around 10,000 face shields to frontline workers, Amazon is extending COVID-19 relief efforts by mass-producing 3D-printed face shields and releasing them at cost price on its website.
The tech giant revealed in its blog post that, for the move, it has teamed up with a group who was printing 3D face shields for frontline workers at Washington State. Initially, the collective was assembling face shields by hand with its own design.
Amazon’s program manager then joined in on the program and recruited some Prime Air workers to refine the face shield design and make sure it is comfortable and light for frontline workers.
The face shields will soon be available on Amazon.com, though the company will prioritize frontline workers before selling the protection gear to the public.
