The Queer Eye members spent the whole of season five giving Philadelphia a glow-up, and even stopped by to zhuzh up Gritty the Philadelphia Flyers mascot.
The cast members of Netflix’s award-winning series met America’s second-most famous orange character in a bonus episode, shown below. Gritty should be well aware of the attention his unusual looks have been getting—when he debuted in September 2018, the bearded ice hockey mascot was ridiculed for his ferocious presence, intense gaze, and exaggerated grin.
All the memes about his appearance were bound to make the endearing icon question his self-esteem now and then. Luckily, Antoni Porowski, Bobby Berk, Jonathan Van Ness, Karamo Brown, and Tan France were here to make the gritty a little more pretty.
Gritty was nominated by Phillie Phanatic, the green bird mascot of the Phillies Major League Baseball team. “I don’t think Gritty needs to change a ton. Maybe you guys can convince him that he doesn’t need to eat a cheesesteak for every meal,” Phillie Phanatic wrote in his letter.
The Fab Five then did their magic, grooming his eyebrows, showing him how to transform his outfits along with the signature French tuck, overhauling his locker room, and teaching him self-love. Not forgetting his fellow mascot friend’s advice, they showed him other meals to incorporate into his diet besides Philly cheesesteaks.
At the end of it, Gritty became the very best version of himself.
