Xiaomi’s delight in having just turned a decade old is truly as clear as day. To celebrate its 10th birthday, the Chinese tech behemoth has launched an otherworldly OLED television that is—wait for it but not for too long because you’ve already been spoiled in the title—transparent.
On Tuesday, the company unveiled the Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition, which it claims is the “world’s first” mass-produced see-through OLED television.
When it’s switched on, images on the screen appear to “float” in the air, interacting with imagery in the real world for an “unprecedented visual experience.”

Marketing visuals posted by Xiaomi show people peering at the screen as if looking into a tank. Flora and fauna levitate against backdrops of rooms and real outdoor settings.
When the 55-inch screen is not in use, Xiaomi says the 5.7mm ultra-thin display will fade into its surroundings and appear as a clear glass display.
The end-to-end transparent panel makes it ideal not only for your living room but also for museums and galleries, the firm adds.
Since the television is transparent, its processing units can’t be fitted behind the display, so they all go into a base stand, which means this model can’t be mounted to the wall.
With that being said, the company emphasizes that no quality has been compromised to wring out these cutting-edge views. The clear Mi TV LUX’s specs are pretty impressive—it boasts 93-percent DCI-P3 color support, a “150,000:1 static contrast ratio,” “infinite dynamic contrast ratio,” and a 120 Hz refresh rate.
The OLED television will be priced at CN¥49,999 (US$7,200) when it rolls out in China on 16 August. The verdict on whether it will be available elsewhere is still cloudy.
