Hasbro has removed its Trolls Poppy doll off shelves after customers complained of a button, disturbingly placed at its “privates,” that set off giggles from the toy.
The toy company has been accused of “facilitating child abuse” after videos of the DreamWorks ‘Trolls World Tour Giggle and Sing’ Poppy doll went viral for the wrong reasons.
In one video, a mother demonstrated how pushing its belly would make the doll sing and talk, but pushing an unadvertised button between its legs would make her giggle and elicit gasping noises like “Whee” and “Oh!”
The clip prompted anger from social media users and incited a petition demanding for the doll to be removed from shelves. “When you push this button on the dolls’s privates she gasps and giggles. This is not okay for a child’s toy! This toy needs to be removed from our stores,” the petition read.
“What will this toy make our innocent, impressionable children think? That it’s funny when someone touches your private area? That pedophilia and child molestation are okay?” it continued. The petition has amassed over 150,000 signatures online.
A Hasbro spokesperson responded to CNN that “the feature was designed to react when the doll was seated.” However, the company now recognized that the placement of the button “may be perceived as inappropriate.”
“This was not intentional and we are happy to provide consumers with a replacement Poppy doll of similar value. We are in the process of removing the item for purchase,” the representative said.
Is @Hasbro normalizing grooming & facilitating child abuse? 🤔👇

Hasbro released a troll doll recently with a button placed on the doll’s vaginal area that makes the doll giggle, laugh and gasp. Do they think we’re stupid enough to believe that they “accidentally” placed a button that makes a doll GASP on it’s vaginal area???

@Hasbro It’s amazing that you don’t have the news article that shows you took your troll doll down. It was set up for sexual satisfaction with a button in her private area that makes her make funny noises. I guess you don’t want parents to know! pic.twitter.com/0VVgTP0j1n

Speaking of normalisation of repulsive behaviour towards children.... here’s @Hasbro with a new Poppy Troll doll that gasps and squeaks when you press a button located between her legs.

No, I’m not kidding. Watch the video before you decide I’m just a paranoid mama. https://t.co/0Kcc7BGQH1
@realDonaldTrump Hasbro needs to go, have you seen the poppy troll doll??? I'm disgusted with them even allowing such a horrendous perversion of a toy #BoycottHasbro
