Last week, Pixar put out a casting call for a voice actor to play the studio’s first-ever transgender character.
Based on Pixar’s document, the famed animation studios is looking for actresses between ages 12 to 17, who “can authentically portray a 14-year-old transgender girl.”
Other descriptions of the role include “enthusiastic, outgoing, funny, and energetic” as well as an expectation that the actor “feels comfortable acting in front of a microphone.”
While the name of the project has yet to be disclosed, San Francisco-based transgender rights organization Trans March says it has confirmed the casting call is legitimate. As per Highsnobiety, the group was able to verify the authenticity of the casting call after speaking to Pixar’s casting director.
For now, the Disney-owned studio remains tight-lipped. All we know is that the character, named Jess, is a 14-year-old transgender girl who is described as “compassionate, funny, and always has your back.”
Nonetheless, fans would surely be excited to see Pixar finally include a transgender character into its amazing animated films.
