Aside from Twitter’s brand-new verification process, the social media app is also planning to roll out a new label for everyone’s least favorite accounts, bots.
As with most social media platforms, Twitter is plagued by tons of non-human accounts. Now, the tech firm wants to label some of the “useful” bot accounts as such, so users know they aren’t just spam.
Some examples include bots that point you to the nearest COVID-19 vaccination center, provide weather reports, or deliver earthquake warnings.
According to TNW, the label will not only mark the account as a purveyor of useful information but will also show who runs the account. Tweets from such accounts will also have a special mark when they show up on the timeline.
Twitter has said the account labels will be automatically rolled out from July, though it’s yet to comment if bot accounts can apply to be labeled as ‘useful’.
Bot accounts aside, the app is also planning on coming up with a special label to memorialize accounts of users who have passed away.
“We’re also helping people contextualize content by labeling an account if it serves a specific purpose.
