Tailing behind the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail, which has been dubbed as the “most expensive” new car ever, the luxury automaker has confirmed that its first-ever electric car is in the works.
Bloomberg Television learned from Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös that the EV will be named the ‘Silent Shadow’, after the sedan that was in production between 1965 and 1980. In spite of this homage, the new Silent Shadow will be a wholly new vehicle.
Müller-Ötvös described that the foray into EVs would be in line with Rolls-Royce’s post-opulence brand. “We are not known for roar-y, loud engines and exhaust noises whatsoever, and that’s a big benefit,” he said.
For now, that’s all the company is willing to let on about its plans in the EV market, and there are currently no design nor release details about this new car.
However, fans might uncover a few hints in the ‘Phantom Experimental Electric’ concept that the marque teased in 2011, which you can take a peek at in the video below.
