On June 21, social media platforms such as Twitter went abuzz after videos surfaced of a man “flying” through Times Square on a hoverboard.
Some users commented that the scene resembled the Green Goblin from Marvel Comics, while others joked that they’d half-expected Spider-Man to take him down mid-air.
It doesn’t seem as if the man was part of a movie promotional stunt, though it could be a sneak peek at a hoverboard that might soon be on the market.
According to Digital Trends, the device could be from Omni Hoverboards, which has produced the “world’s first electric hoverboard.”
While the firm has yet to confirm if the man was indeed using its product, this sci-fi wonder has certainly caught the attention of the world.
In the video, one can see the hoverboard flying 10 to 15 feet off the ground, far above the heads of passersby that clamored to film the man. It’s hard to tell what exactly is powering the hoverboard, or if there was an engine of some sort.
If the hoverboard is an actual product that could hit the shelves soon, it could cause concern about personal mobility devices crashing into pedestrians on the sidewalk, as impressive as it seems.
