Louis Vuitton’s menswear artistic director Virgil Abloh is bringing a love of circularity to the fashion house’s ethos with the ‘Felt Line’, a selection of classics modified for sustainability.
First teased at the men’s Fall/Winter 2021 show, the Felt Line consists of three leather favorites—the Keepall, Keepall XS, and Soft Trunk—reconstructed with “eco felt,” organic cotton, repurposed wool-based jacquard, as well as polyester from Louis Vuitton’s existing stocks and chains from recycled plastic, WWD reports. A limited-edition coat crafted from the same material joins this capsule.
Symbolic of moving blankets, Felt Line pieces sport a gray felt finish, with the signature LV monogram in lurex thread tufting to create the illusion of the logo fading in and out of the bags.
It’s worth mentioning that—while eco-conscious—the collection isn’t vegan-friendly, as it reuses wool jacquard and is built with straps and handles from Leather Working Group-certified leather.
Be that as it may, the revamp of signature leather pieces with recycled or greener alternatives is a step forward, as it helps to “preserve natural resources,” Louis Vuitton’s global head of sustainability Christelle Capdupuy told WWD.
“Today, we’re furthering our commitments by extending our sustainable development approach to all of raw materials with the goal of reaching 100-percent responsibly sourced raw materials by 2025,” Capdupuy added.
The Felt Line should debut in full swing at Louis Vuitton locations on July 16.
