Apple might have already gone through a handful of keynotes without its former design chief, but fans can hardly forget the calming British voice that soothed them into reaching into their wallets. In a way that’s not too far from the excitement surrounding new iPhones, Apple users were most certainly looking forward to hearing Jony Ive talk during product launches.
And now, if you close your eyes, it almost feels like Apple promos with Jony Ive’s voice are back—thanks to Google. The Apple rival has released a silly advertisement solely focused on the headphone jack, a feature that’s long removed from iPhones, with a narrator that sounds remarkably like Ive.
In a spot filled with marketing fluff, Google seemingly imagines that the respected former Apple executive would be missing the headphone jack. At one point, it, or he, even likens the click of a headphone cable into the outlet to a module connecting to the International Space Station (ISS).
“Calling this perfectly-symmetrical, technological marvel, a ‘headphone jack’ may feel like an understatement… but technically, that’s what it’s called, so… fair enough,” Google jokes in the video’s description. “Behold! The Headphone Jack, on the Google Pixel 5a with 5G.”
