Nike Is Breathing Life Into Deadstock To Create Entirely Unique Designs
By Alexa Heah, 31 May 2022
In a step toward a circular vision and the ultimate goal of a zero-carbon, zero-waste future, Nike has debuted the first chapter of a program it calls ‘Re-Creation’.
The new initiative collects vintage and deadstock pieces before turning them into brand-new, locally-designed products for sale.
For its first launch, Nike released three iconic Nike fleece hoodies and crew silhouettes at The Grove in Los Angeles.
Available in limited quantities, each piece was restored to wearable condition through a labor-intensive process of cleaning, dyeing, stitching, and patching.
As such, every item is unique, featuring its own pattern of patches and decorative stitching, along with a range of Nike heritage and LA-inspired screen-printed graphic designs.
“Nike Re-Creation highlights an exciting moment of experimentation and progression,” said John Hoke, Chief Design Officer at Nike.
“The program exemplifies Nike’s collaborative spirit, bringing together experts in design, retail, supply chain, and sustainability to strategize and learn,” he added.
