TikTok Tests Distraction-Free ‘Clear Mode’ For Optimal Scrolling
By Nicole Rodrigues, 03 Jun 2022
Selected users have been chosen to trial TikTok’s newest advancement, distraction-free scrolling. Called ‘Clear Mode’, this new feature enables users to have an unobstructed view of content by removing everything from the screen leaving the video in the clear.
Social media consultant Matt Navarra brought light to the new feature in a tweet that showcased screenshots of the new tab offering ‘Clear Mode’. The feature can be accessed in the trial by long-pressing on a video and bringing the menu up. Under the ‘Save to Favorites’ option is the ‘Clear mode’ toggle.

‘Clear Mode’ hides captions, audio names, and usernames, which could cover important parts of clips. It also seems that you can potentially get rid of the like and comment buttons to enhance the distraction-free experience, as well.
To be able to view the full footage, users often ask creators to crop videos and repost them, and having the unobstructed view would just make things easier for everyone.
TikTok is also in the midst of testing a host of new features, including live mobile gaming, and an easier way for users to access their history and find videos that they had previously watched.
‘Clear Mode’ is still in its early stages of testing, and there is no timeline for its arrival to the general public as of yet, or even if it will even make it to a future update at all. TikTok is awaiting more feedback from users before rolling it out.
