Getty Images & Pantene Launch LGBTQ+ Gallery To Make Representation Accessible
By Nicole Rodrigues, 14 Jun 2022
Pantene and Getty Images have banded together for Pride Month to bring together a gallery that not only uplifts the LGBTQ+ community but also stomps out the rampant and unfair stereotypes still present against the community. While Pantene and Getty Images may not have a lot in common on the outside, they both see and understand the typecast placed upon the community.
Hair is an important form of expression and identity for many. Yet, its role in sexuality and gender identity isn’t immediately obvious to others, the media included.
On Getty Images’ part, it has realized that only less than 1% of the most popular visuals on their platform have LGBTQ+ representation. Even so, those visuals are a less-than-perfect portrait of the community.
The new #StyleWithPride gallery, made available to all, is in an effort to properly portray the community, opening up more inclusive assets to businesses and society. Images in the collection were captured by the stock library’s custom content photographers as part of a movement to make authentic representation mainstream.
At the time of publication, the collection features about 1,400 videos and images “of authentic representation across all LGBTQ+ spectrums that will be accessible to all.” According to the press release, the assets will “be accessible for all brands to leverage.”
In association with Dresscode, Pantene is also going to donate US$1 for every photo assigned with the #StyleWithPride hashtag.
