Is That TikTok? No, It’s Instagram’s New Full-Screen Feed Design

It’s no secret Meta is gearing up to take on TikTok, especially with Instagram, which became the popular video platform’s direct competitor when it rolled out Reels.
Pulling no punches, the photo-sharing application even announced it would be demoting reposts from TikTok in order to discourage cross-posting on its site.
Last month, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri revealed that the social network would be trialing “taller photos and taller videos” on users’ home feeds. And now, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed the platform is testing a full-screen version of the feed.
If you think you’re the only one who thinks it looks almost like a copy of TikTok’s For You Page (FYP), your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. Zuckerberg’s preview of the new feature—which will be available to select users in the coming days—does look like a clone of the ByteDance site.
“We want to make it easier to discover content and connect with friends,” Zuckerberg wrote on Instagram Stories.
To alleviate concerns that Instagram would be moving away from still images entirely, he did add that “photos are still an important part of Instagram” and that the application was working “on ways to improve the way they show up in a full-screen feed too.”
Are you a fan of the new look? Or in the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” camp? We’ll just have to stay tuned to see if the full-screen feed becomes a permanent feature of Instagram.
