Sombreros On These Tequila Bottles Aren’t Just Here To Look Cute
By Mikelle Leow, 13 Aug 2022
If margaritas are the language you speak, you’d probably recognize these hat-wearing Sierra Tequila bottles that stand out from all others thanks to their impeccable style.
Well, guess what—these bottles actually put the smart in smart-casual wear. Their sombrero-shaped lids aren’t just clever branding and an adorable touch, but they’re also useful for hosts who wish to impress at parties.
As demonstrated by social media users like Jack Mull and Nino Purtseladze, the hats are just the right shape and size to salt the rims of a shot glass. Traditionally, tequila is served with salt and a squeeze of lime, hence the thoughtful (and only mildly drunk) considerations in packaging.
I was today years old when I realised the sombrero on top of the bottle of tequila was so you could salt your glass pic.twitter.com/VlOCxx9t4V

If you have a bottle with you right now, try this. Rub a lime wedge around the mouth of your shot glass. Then, pour salt into the brim of the teeny sombrero and dip your glass into it. The salt will stick neatly onto the rim, just like the shots at bars.
Hats off to the bottle’s designers for this trick. Now, you can have your tequila shot prepared the right way at home.
Some drinkers believe the brand has squeezed yet another purpose into the lid, and think it could also be used as a citrus press.
Are you seeing double—at both form and function—now? Ironically, that’s the clarity speaking.
