TAG Heuer Debuts Luminescent Monaco Watch To Illuminate Driving At Night
By Nicole Rodrigues, 20 Sep 2023
TAG Heuer, known for its racing ties, steps onto the scene with a fresh rendition of its iconic Monaco timepiece—the Night Driver.
Watches, in their myriad forms, often come equipped with features for low-light visibility. Whether it’s luminescent coatings, tritium glows, or LED backlights, these elements cater to different needs. Divers and field watches, for instance, prioritize luminescent hands and indices. This choice ensures that when the lights dim, time remains effortlessly readable.
On the other hand, racing-style chronographs often put their spotlight on daytime aesthetics rather than nocturnal functionality.
The Monaco Night Driver makes a bold statement with its heavily-lumed dial. Bathed in blue Super-LumiNova, the hands, hour markers, subdials, and the dial’s perimeter come alive in low light.
This square-cased wonder, measuring 39mm, boasts a grade five titanium construction. It finds its perfect complement in a perforated calfskin leather racing strap.
By day, the outer dial and subdials adorned with lume display an off-white hue, creating a striking contrast with the steel gray inner dial circle.
TAG Heuer uses its in-house HEUER 02 Automatic movement. The exhibition caseback offers a view of three subdials and a date window, revealing the watch’s mechanical heart.
Limited to just 600 pieces, the Monaco Chronograph Night Driver is priced at US$9,550 and can be found online.
