Apple is about to add a new kind of “vision” to our tech vocabulary with the upcoming release of the Vision Pro, its long-awaited mixed-reality headset with “spatial computing.” Set for launch on February 2 in the US, this device is pegged at US$3,499 and is shaping up to be an entertainment hub just as much as one for productivity.
Imagine watching your favorite films or binging on series on a virtual screen that feels a whopping 100 feet wide. The device boasts a resolution equivalent to a 4K TV for each eye, complete with HDR support. With the initial launch, the Vision Pro promises an offering of over 150 movies and television shows in 3D.

For those who love their shows in traditional 2D, the Vision Pro still delivers a cinematic experience with its expansive virtual screen.
Gaming on the Vision Pro is an experience unto itself. While it won’t sync up with major gaming consoles or the big VR games, it does support over 250 titles on Apple Arcade. Some of these games have been specially adapted for the Vision Pro, offering a more immersive gaming experience. In addition, players can dive into “spatial games” like Game Room, What the Golf?, and Super Fruit Ninja, which are designed to transform your physical space into an interactive gaming arena.
On the productivity front, the Vision Pro supports a range of 2D productivity apps like Fantastical, Freeform, JigSpace, Microsoft 365 apps, and Slack. This compatibility makes it a potentially invaluable aid for professionals who are always on the lookout for ways to shake up their workflow.

The Cupertino tech giant has also cooked up something special with the Apple Immersive Video, a new format enabling 180-degree 3D 8K video recordings with Spatial Audio, putting users right in the heart of the action. One of the first experiences on offer is Encounter Dinosaurs.

The design of the Vision Pro includes a Solo Knit Band and a newly introduced Dual Loop Band for a comfortable, secure fit. It also comes with a light seal, external battery, USB-C charge cable, and a power adapter. The standard model features 256GB of storage and operates on the new spatialOS, specifically designed for the Vision Pro. Those who need visual correction can opt for corrective lenses or prescription Optical Inserts for a further US$149.
