Disney offered a glimpse into the wild, wild past with the first look at its upcoming prequel film, Mufasa: The Lion King, at its 2024 annual shareholders meeting.
The CG live-action movie, directed by Academy Award winner Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), will delve into the origins of the beloved lion king, Mufasa, and his complex relationship with his younger brother, Scar.

Those in attendance were shown a young Mufasa standing heroically on a cliff overlooking a vast landscape, long before he became the wise and courageous leader revered by all of the majestic Pride Lands.
This solitary pose hints at the film’s potential exploration of Mufasa's journey to becoming the wise and courageous leader audiences know and love.
Mufasa: The Lion King, arriving this December 20, is part of Disney’s ambitious slate of live-action reimaginings. Following its release, fans can anticipate more enchanting adaptations, including a fresh take on Snow White and a live-action version of the beloved Moana. Dwayne Johnson will once again channel the demigod Maui in the latter, set to hit theaters in June 2025.
