Zoom is rising above the ashes of the pandemic, during which it became a literal household name, with its most extensive makeover in a decade. Dubbed Zoom Workplace, its new platform (replacing Zoom One) ropes in the powers of artificial intelligence to better serve its millions of members as well as to streamline online interactions.
First up, there are new aesthetic options. Users jaded by the classic gray interface can now personalize their virtual meeting rooms with one of four new color themes, making their digital workspace less monotonous.
Zoom Workplace is also set to introduce immersive features to add dynamism to virtual conferences. A standout addition is the multi-speaker view, which visually maximizes the visibility of meeting leaders and positions them on a digital stage, while attendees are sized down and placed in the audience. This enhances the focus on speakers.

Zoom Workplace introduces a pivotal feature: the Zoom AI Companion, included at no additional cost. This smart assistant is designed to dramatically enhance productivity throughout the workday by delivering high-quality, accurate results. A recent study by GigaOm, commissioned by Zoom and published last month, reveals a 95% accuracy rate in transcription services by the Zoom AI Companion and delivering in-meeting responses four times faster than ChatGPT-4 web.
The AI Companion is more than just a transcription tool; it actively contributes to various aspects of professional collaboration. It summarizes meetings and chat threads, keeping users informed and up-to-date. For brainstorming sessions, it assists teams by contributing ideas on whiteboards and can swiftly compose chats and email drafts, optimizing time and enhancing team dynamics.

Further boosting teamwork, Zoom has integrated a new document collaboration feature, allowing the importation and real-time editing of third-party documents directly within the platform.
After a meeting concludes, Zoom’s revamped Meeting Event hub aggregates all shared content in one easily accessible location. This hub not only stores important documents but also features AI-generated summaries, helping users catch up on missed details or reinforce discussed points. Additionally, the update enhances visual and audio quality. A new portrait lighting feature uses AI to adjust lighting conditions, brightening faces or darkening backgrounds to keep participants visually centered. Audio improvements include a personalized audio isolation feature, which is especially beneficial for users in noisy environments, helping to filter out background noise and clarify speech.

The update also enlarges emoji reactions for increased visibility and interactivity. Moreover, with an eye towards rivaling platforms like Slack, Zoom is expanding its Team Chat capabilities by introducing Shared Spaces that allow users to organize conversations more effectively within grouped channels.
