Are AI-generated artworks the new “Live, Laugh, Love” posters? Walmart has drawn unwanted attention after it was found retailing art that many suspect isn’t created by a human artist.
The piece in question, spotted by Reddit user u/evolvedspice, and originally retailing for US$26.54 but has since been discounted at US$22.15, displays a stylized perfume bottle surrounded by vibrant floral patterns set against a dark background. However, the label on the bottle reads “CHANE” instead of the Chanel logo, and includes other jumbled letters that resemble English but form no coherent words.
This particular type of error, with text that appears correct at a glance but is ultimately nonsensical, is a hallmark of many AI-generated images.
Further stirring the pot, a fellow user has discovered the same “painting” on the Bed Bath & Beyond website under a company named “Design Art.”

Thoughts on the lack of quality control aside, the presence of this works has raised questions about trademark infringement, especially given the close resemblance to the luxury brand Chanel in the misspelled label.
