In times of unpredictability, it can be difficult to get quality sleep. However, it is now more important than ever to get adequate rest as it can affect your overall health and wellbeing.
Fast Company has offered some tips on getting proper sleep even during the coronavirus pandemic. Take a look at a few recommendations.
Have a sleep routine
Now that many people are self-isolating at home, they now have to face a new, unfamiliar normal. Therefore, it’s crucial for people to create a proper schedule daily to get things done and have ample time for sleep.
Try “training” your body to sleep at a regular time by hitting the sack at least 30 minutes to an hour earlier. This routine should help you relax better.
Limit use of caffeine
If you are struggling to sleep at night, it could be due to substances that you consumed or used at a later time during the day. To get restful and uninterrupted sleep, try kicking out caffeine after 12pm. It’s hard to stay alert during the day, but it might be key to getting a proper slumber at night.
Create a dark and comfortable bedroom
As the circadian rhythms in your body are triggered by light, it’s important to keep your room dark to prepare for bedtime and ready yourself to sleep. It is also recommended to sleep in cool temperatures, but not too chilly that you feel restless in bed. Being comfortable is an utmost factor in getting proper sleep, so you’ll need to invest in proper mattresses, pillows, and sheets too.
Chill out
You might still be struggling to sleep as your mind continues to race in bed with relentless thoughts. Therefore, take some time to chill out and get yourself into a relaxed state. Try a cup of chamomile tea, read a book, stretch a little or meditate before bedtime.
