This Thursday, Donald Trump and Joe Biden will go head-to-head for the second presidential debate, and this time around, each candidate will be placed on mute when the other has the floor.
During the first event, the candidates struggled to answer the questions given to them due to interruptions from the other party. This even led to Biden to tell Trump, “Will you shut up, man?”
To avoid such incidents in the second event, the Commission of Presidential Debates has announced that it will be muting the microphones of the candidates accordingly.
During each segment, the participant that is being asked a question will have their two minutes of uninterrupted time, with the other candidate’s microphone placed on mute.
“The Commission is announcing today that in order to enforce this agreed upon rule, the only candidate whose microphone will be open during these two-minute periods is the candidate who has the floor under the rules,” the commission’s statement on Monday read, per CNN
The event will be streamed live via C-SPAN’s YouTube channel.
