Instagram has been the name dominating the social media game in the past decade. Now, it’s TikTok. And soon, it could be TikTok Notes. The video-sharing platform is taking a clear shot across the bow of Instagram’s well-established turf with a brand-new app specifically designed for photo sharing.
This has been a known secret for about a month, as what could be the logo for the Instagram rival previously sprouted in TikTok’s code. In the latest development, notifications have been popping up on TikTok user accounts, hinting at the upcoming launch and the option to migrate existing photo posts to Notes.

This move is the latest chapter in the ongoing saga of TikTok and Instagram’s feature feud. Remember Instagram Reels, the short-form video feature blatantly inspired by TikTok's wildly popular format? Well, TikTok returned the favor with features like Duets and Stitches, mirroring elements of Reels. Both platforms have even dipped their toes into live streaming and creator monetization through ad revenue sharing and sponsored content programs.
And it doesn’t stop there. Meta’s Facebook recently revamped its video player to accommodate the vertical video format that’s TikTok's signature style.
While a release date for TikTok’s photo-sharing app remains under wraps, a TikTok spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that this new service is all about giving users a dedicated space to unleash their creativity with photos and captions. Sounds a tad familiar.
